The Allan Labor Government has helped Victorian families slash $1 billion off the installation of solar panels, energy efficient heat pumps and batteries – saving hundreds of millions off Victorian energy bills each year.
Member for Narre Warren South Gary Maas MP, recently joined the Hon Lily D’Ambrosio MP Minister for Energy and Resources and Sheena Watt MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Action in Narre Warren South, to announce another record year for the Solar Homes rebate.
More than 78,000 solar panels, hot water systems and batteries were installed in 2024 across Victoria – the largest year on record, with Narre Warren South having one of the highest uptakes.
Mr Maas met with resident Uteng, who received a $1400 Solar Homes rebate last year and has seen a significant reduction in her family’s energy bills since the installation.
Uteng is just one local getting on board. Over 7860 installations including solar panels, hot water systems and batteries have occurred in Narre Warren South electorate as part of the program.
More households than ever before are reaping the benefits of the State Government’s flagship Solar Homes program, with over 300,000 solar panels installed through the program since it began in 2018.
Today, 30 per cent of Victorian homes now have solar installed with the majority of installations occurring in Melbourne’s outer suburbs.
Families can save $1,000 each year on their energy bills by powering their homes with solar. If combined with a hot water heat pump they can save up to $1,400 a year or at least $1,600 with a battery.
Victorian’s can also save through the Victorian Energy Upgrades which delivers discounts on appliances ranging from heat pumps to cooktops. The program has saved Victorians $440 million on energy efficient appliances.
